Armed Forces of Ukraine can gain foothold on Kinburn spit and continue counteroffensive from there in Kherson region, - ISW

Russian defensive positions indicate that the occupiers perceive the prospect of a Ukrainian counteroffensive across the Dnipro River as a serious threat.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts note that the set of fortifications of the Russian army on and around the Kinburn Spit indicates that the invaders do not plan to hold positions on the Spit itself if the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a counterattack on it.
"Most likely, the Russians expect that the Ukrainians will liberate the Kinburn spit and intend to prevent them from advancing to the mainland of the Kherson region and defending themselves in the territory immediately surrounding the junction of the spit with the mainland part of the region," ISW suggests.
Experts explain that level defense lines in this region provide Russian forces with several backup positions in case one defense line falls and the rest remain.
"Defenses near Kinburn Spit indicate that Russian forces are concerned that Ukrainian forces may gain a foothold on or near Kosa and use it as a base for an offensive from the west," added the Institute for the Study of War.
