French MEP calls on West to completely change Ukraine’s weapons strategy

The West needs to change its thinking and strategy on providing military assistance to Ukraine - it is not Ukraine fighting for itself and the West providing assistance, it is Ukraine fighting for the West and it is about helping itself. The strategy of arming Ukraine step by step is wrong, has cost thousands of lives, and must be changed.

This was stated in comment to Guildhall by Raphael Glucksmann, Member of the European Parliament from France, Chairman of the Special Committee on Foreign Interference, including Disinformation, reports Censor.NЕТ.

"The strategy of gradual, step-by-step arming of Ukraine chosen by the West is wrong. This strategy comes at an incredible cost in human lives. For obvious reasons, we are not sending our soldiers, but we must send absolutely everything that is necessary for Ukraine to win. We have to take a proactive stance, aviation, air defense, long-range missiles, whatever is necessary," said the French MEP.

"Our step-by-step strategy of incrementalism was a big mistake. What we need to do is a "full package" for Ukraine. We have to assess the situation, understand what Ukraine needs, and without Zelensky's visits, we have to allow and supply all the necessary weapons. The only acceptable strategic goal of the West should be the military defeat of Russia. You will get the aircraft, but I think it is too late and that we are giving it too little," said Glucksmann.

"It's not just about airplanes or long-range missiles, it's about changing the way we think. It is not Ukraine that is fighting for itself, but we are helping it. Ukraine is fighting for us, and we are helping ourselves. This is the honest and sincere attitude that we should have. If our goal is to defeat Russia, it is not Ukraine that should ask for certain types of weapons step by step. The full package, everything that is needed, is proactive on our part," the MEP summarized.

Earlier, in the German Bundestag, Markus Faber, a member of the coalition Free Democratic Party (FDP), called on the German government to give Poland and Slovakia permission to transfer East German MiGs to Ukraine.
