NATO may transfer 62 Leopard 2s to Ukraine - Pistorius
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries may transfer up to 62 German Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine.
As informs Censor.NЕТ with reference to Suspilne, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio.
"Yes, it can happen," the official said, answering a question about whether the figure of 62 tanks to be transferred to Ukraine could be reached.
This number will be enough to form two tank battalions, but it is unlikely that Germany will provide more tanks, Pistorius added. The Minister emphasized that to do so, the reserves must first be replenished by industry.
According to him, the West is capable of delivering the 300 tanks requested by Ukraine.
"And then you will see how the course of the war will change after that," he said.
Given the decision to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks, the Defense Minister assumes that the Alliance will receive additional commitments, the newspaper notes. According to Pistorius, he is "very confident" that the transfer of more modern Leopard 2A6 tanks will increase the number of tanks for Ukraine.
