Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy rejected Volodymyr Zelensky’s offer to visit Ukraine to see for himself how American aid is distributed.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to CNN.

In an interview with CNN, McCarthy explained his refusal as follows: "Let's be clear about what I said: no checks were opened, okay? So, from that perspective, I don't need to go to Ukraine to know whether the checks were opened or not. I will continue to receive my briefings, but I don't need to go to Ukraine to see anything. And my opinion has always been this: I will never give anyone an open check."

The publication notes that McCarthy did not support a resolution in Congress proposed by Republican Matt Geitz on the "fatigue" of aid to Ukraine, but the speaker emphasized that this did not mean that he would automatically support any aid package that the Biden administration would offer, even if US officials will monitor every dollar spent.

Zelensky invited McCarthy to Ukraine, arguing that: "He should come here, he should see what we are doing, what the war has caused here... He has never visited Kyiv, I think it will help him with his position."

Previously, high-ranking American officials, including US President Joe Biden and McCarthy's predecessor, Nancy Pelosi, have already visited Ukraine.
