Offensive of Russian Federation is approaching its climax, - ISW

рф

American analysts suggest that Russia’s offensive in Donbas may be approaching its climax, and Ukraine has the opportunity to seize the initiative and launch a counteroffensive.

As reported by Censor.NET with reference to UP, this is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts note that the pace of Russian offensive operations throughout the hostilities has slowed in recent weeks, suggesting that Russia's spring offensive in Donbas may be nearing its climax.

They also indicate that the Armed Forces of Ukraine probably conducted a local counterattack southwest of Bakhmut against the backdrop of intensifying discussions in Russia about a possible Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Bakhmut area. And these discussions indicate that "Russian sources are increasingly not confident in the ability of the Russian military to retain the initiative around Bakhmut."

In addition, the Ukrainian military continues to point out that the massive losses of Russian troops in the Vugledar region seriously weaken the Russian offensive potential in the Donetsk region, says the review of the Institute for the Study of War.

Experts note: "The special recovery of existing units for deployment near Vugledar, as well as the obvious creation of sub-brigade echeloned special formations, shows that Russia's combat capabilities in the west of the Donetsk region have significantly deteriorated."

Given the trends of hostilities, according to experts, "Ukraine has all the opportunities to seize the initiative and launch a counteroffensive at critical areas of the current front line."
