From April 1, new rules regarding free accommodation and health insurance for refugees from Ukraine have been in force in the Czech Republic.

The new rules are due to changes to the Lex Ukraina V law signed by the president of the Czech Republic. Censor.NET reports this with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

From April 1, the following new rules for free accommodation are in effect:

  • the maximum term of providing free housing is 150 days, starting from the date of receiving temporary protection. The terms of residence in certain places are added up;
  • the period of free residence before the entry into force of the law Lex Ukraine V is also taken into account;
  • Ukrainians lose the right to free housing if a person refuses housing or leaves it without valid reasons. It is considered that then the person has exhausted the maximum term;
  • if the period of 150 days has already expired before the entry into force of Lex Ukraine V or within 90 days thereafter, then there remains a protective period of 90 days from the date of entry into force of Lex Ukraine V.This means that even after 150 days, refugees can live for another 90 days for free, which will give them some time to find new housing.

The Czech Republic also made changes to the rules for obtaining free health insurance.

After 150 days of stay in the country for persons aged 18 to 64, the state will stop paying for health insurance automatically. The state will continue to pay for such insurance in cases where a person's serious health condition prevents them from working.

For example, these are bedridden patients, women with high-risk pregnancies, people with oncological diseases in the last stages who need palliative care.
