Ukraine wants to maintain control over its supply route in Bakhmut.

Intelligence sources said that heavy close combat was taking place in the western part of the city.
The key event over the past week has been fighting on the outskirts of Bakhmut, especially near the village of Khromove, as Ukraine seeks to maintain control of its supply route 0506.
According to UK intelligence, Ukraine's other options for supplying Bakhmut are likely to be hampered by mud on the dirt roads.
"As the city has been under attack for more than 11 months, the Ukrainian defense of Bakhmut has become one element of a much deeper defensive zone that includes the town of Chasiv Yar to the west," the statement said.
