Hungary’s behavior is inadequate, how can NATO country be for Russia and against Alliance, - Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the behavior of Hungary and its relations with Russia do not correspond to the status of a NATO ally.
As Censor.NET informs with reference to "Euro Integration", he said this in an interview with Finnish, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian journalists.
"How to resolve the dispute with Budapest? The only question is Budapest's desire. It seems to me that there is a political entanglement of the political elites in Hungary. It is a very strange situation, can a NATO country be for Russia and against NATO?" Zelenskyy said.
According to him, there cannot be NATO allies for a country that calls NATO an enemy.
"I believe that this is inappropriate behavior. I am speaking my subjective opinion. An ally is not just a word, it is a meaning. It is a union of states with the same view on security, on values. They treat certain moments differently, but there is an agreement allies who protect each other and their respective values," the president said.
"And if all the allies say that Russia calls us an enemy, we must put Russia in its place, then one state cannot say - no, Russia is our ally. This cannot be. This means that you are no longer an ally of the Alliance. And therefore, if you are a de jure ally, but de facto you are working against it, so you should not advise Ukraine to join NATO or not. And you should not create obstacles," he added.
It will be recalled that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, expressed his indignation at the statement of the Secretary General of NATO during his visit to Kyiv that Ukraine should become a member of the Alliance in the future.
Orban previously called Ukraine "financially non-existent", complaining that Europe helps it finance many basic needs, and said that without this support "the war will end immediately".
