Georgia will not introduce sanctions against Russia, - Prime Minister Garibashvili

Georgian Prime Minister Iraklii Garibashvili believes that the country’s economy will collapse if it imposes direct sanctions against Russia.

He stated this during a speech at an economic forum in Qatar, Censor.NET informs with reference to "Interfax-Ukraine".

"We will harm our people if we impose sanctions against Russia," Garibashvili said.

He noted that Georgia supports Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, but will not introduce direct sanctions against Russia.

"Our trade with Russia is less than a billion dollars. For comparison: the European Union trades with Russia in just four days, as much as we trade in a year. Where is the logic when we are called to introduce sanctions against Russia?" said Garibashvili.

According to him, some Ukrainian politicians would very much like a "second front" against Russia to be opened in Georgia, but this will not happen.

"Georgia is a small nation with a population of four million people, so it is important to maintain peace, stability and security in the country. My duty is to protect the interests of my people," Garibashvili said.

Earlier, the prime minister of Georgia, which refused to introduce sanctions against Russia in connection with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, said that his country is doing everything to preserve peace.
