NATO is developing a formula for relations with Ukraine following example of US and Israel, - Rakhmanin
As long as active hostilities continue, Ukraine will not be able to become a full-fledged NATO member, but all parties need a different format of relations. NATO members are currently working on it and are inclined to follow the example of the relationship between the United States and Israel.
According to Censor.NЕТ, such thought was stated by Serhiy Rakhmanin, MP from the Voice party, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.
"NATO cannot afford to say once again that NATO's doors are open to Ukraine, but not now. But it also cannot afford to make a decision on Ukraine's membership in the Alliance," the MP stated.
According to Serhiy Rakhmanin, NATO members are now looking for a formula that would provide at least some real guarantees for Ukraine.
"In particular, they are discussing the option of forming relations between the Alliance and Ukraine similar to the way the United States and Israel build their relations. The point is that the United States invests huge amounts of money in Israel's security, supplies new technologies, weapons, and is to some extent responsible for the security of this country, but not for the physical defense of Israel in the event of aggression. And as far as I understand it, the United States is ready to offer such a formula. This is due to the fact that the number of people in Washington who believe that Ukraine should be helped more actively is increasing," the Voice representative emphasized.
