EU has launched proceedings against Poland over Russian influence law

польща

The Board of Commissioners of the European Union has decided to initiate proceedings regarding Poland’s violation of EU legislation in connection with the law on the creation of a commission to investigate Russian influence.

As Censor.NET informs, "European Truth" writes about this with reference to RMF FM.

The European Commission has already criticized the law and warned that it would not hesitate to take action.

For now, it has been decided to send a "letter with an official notification".

This is the first stage of the infringement procedure, which may end up in the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Poland has time to fulfill the requirement. If it does not, the European Commission will move to the next stage, which could mean further financial sanctions.

This also means that the European Commission, after analysis, concluded that the law establishing a commission to investigate Russian influence violates EU law.

To recall, Polish President Andrzej Duda unexpectedly announced on Friday that he is proposing urgent amendments to the controversial Russian influence law, which he signed this week and which has drawn criticism from the United States and the European Union.

The Polish opposition, primarily the Civic Platform party and its leader Donald Tusk, believe that the Law and Justice initiative is directed against them, primarily in the context of the 2010 Smolensk plane crash.

According to opponents, the law is designed to remove Donald Tusk from the political scene before the parliamentary elections, or at least to humiliate him in the eyes of voters. Hence the name of the law in Poland - "lex Tusk".
