Ukraine is an extremely important partner for NATO and it will definitely become a member of the Alliance, this issue has already been resolved.

This was stated in an interview with Evropeiska Pravda by NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Policy Baiba Braže, Censor.NET reports.

She explained that NATO cooperates with Ukraine on interoperability between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Alliance's forces, so that the former meet NATO standards, while military assistance is provided by member states.

"There is already a decision that Ukraine will be a NATO member in the future, it was made back in 2008 in Bucharest. Back then, the leaders agreed that Ukraine has this perspective," Brazier said.

According to her, a key part of Kyiv's cooperation with the Alliance is that Ukraine must win and be "an independent democratic country that can become a NATO member after the war".

"Now, in times of war, it is important for you to see the future - and I completely agree with this," Brazier said.

"As for Vilnius (the July NATO summit - Ed.), the future decision of the leaders, as well as the format of relations (with Ukraine - Ed.) that they will choose, will no longer be a decision on whether Ukraine will be a NATO member. After all, Ukraine will definitely be a member of the Alliance, it is a done deal. Instead, the decision will be about how to win and how to strengthen practical and political relations with the Alliance now," she added.

Brazier expressed confidence that the signal Ukraine will receive at the NATO Summit in Vilnius "will be very positive": "Who knows if it will be the exact terminology that this or that person wants - but I see no reason to doubt the commitment of NATO and its leaders to Ukraine."

As a reminder, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that ideally, Ukraine would like to receive an invitation to join the Alliance at the July NATO summit.
