Ukraine is conducting negotiations with Bulgaria on the purchase of two Russian-made nuclear reactors and other energy equipment.

Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko stated this at a press conference, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

"I can say that negotiations are underway. We currently do not have the Zaporizhzhia NPP in the system, but there is a high level of readiness of the third unit at the Khmelnytskyi station. Accordingly, this would give us the opportunity to speed up additional generation in the system," Halushchenko said.

According to him, the installation of reactors is planned during the war together with the American company Westinghouse.

"We are not dependent on Russia now and we will not be dependent on any technical service," Halushchenko added.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Ukraine is close to concluding an agreement with Bulgaria regarding the purchase of two Russian-made nuclear reactors and other critical energy equipment. It is expected that the Bulgarian state energy company NEK will sell equipment from the unfinished Belene nuclear power plant to the Ukrainian state nuclear company Energoatom for at least 600 million euros.
