Every day, Ukrainian defenders move forward at a distance of 500 m to 1 km.

This was stated in an interview with the BBC by the commander of the Ground Forces Oleksandr Syrsky, Censor.NET reports.

According to him, the promotions are really not going as fast as we would like.

"In addition, Russian troops have an advantage in terms of numbers and especially in artillery. And most importantly, a significant advantage in the ability to provide ammunition. That is, currently, we can respond with one shot to seven to eight shots fired by the Russians. Unfortunately, this is our cruel reality. But we plan our operations very carefully. That is why we are able to achieve success. And now we are moving forward," the commander explained.

"Every day we move forward by a distance of 0.5 to 1 km," added Syrsky.

He noted that he is currently in a situation where he understands that it is necessary to advance.

"And we do this to prevent the enemy from intercepting the operational initiative. Our offensive initiative. Because for a long time, when the Russian troops were advancing in the Bakhmut direction, we were forced to defend ourselves.
Therefore, against the background of a general defense operation, we conduct offensive actions in several directions, creating a distinct advantage in forces and means in such limited areas. And then we use our advantage. Well, and most importantly - it gives a very big moral stimulus for our servicemen.

This is very important for us, because our servicemen feel, let's say, the thirst for victory. They understand that they are moving forward, even though they are moving constantly with battles. But we don't do it casually, and every operation is very well thought out. Each day of such offensive actions is planned in detail, so we have much smaller losses in personnel. And we achieve success mainly due to the use of maneuvers, flanking strikes, bypassing, covering, and going to the rear," the commander added.
