Russia has begun to use drones more actively against Ukraine to hit civilian and military targets. The defence forces, which operate in a unified air defence system, are stepping up their countermeasures against enemy drones of various types, including the use of automatic guns with anti-aircraft missiles.

This was stated by the spokesperson for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, during a telethon, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"The main thing for us now is to work on this threat as effectively as possible with all the Defence Forces working in a single air defence system. You can see that there are more and more of them, and the reinforcement is automatic guns that fire anti-aircraft shells that have a bursting effect, that is, many striking elements that do not give Shahed a chance," Ihnat said.

According to him, anti-aircraft guns effectively counteract drones. The Land Forces have quite a few such systems that are supposed to protect the military from attacks by Russian attack drones.

The spokesperson noted that anti-aircraft guns can be mounted both stationary and on chassis.

"Therefore, it will be decided how to deploy it in accordance with the area and the direction of the mission. In general, such platforms can be deployed close to critical infrastructure facilities to protect the facility when some of the drones are shot down by aviation or air defence, and the guns that have arrived are used as a weapon of last resort," Ihnat added.
