60% of Ukrainians ready to postpone Ukraine’s accession to EU for sake of interests of our country, - survey

The majority of Ukrainians believe that our state should defend its interests upon joining the European Union, even if this leads to a delay in joining.

This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology on behalf of the EU Consultative Mission in Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

77% of respondents said that it is important for them that Ukraine becomes a member of the EU. The share of those for whom it is important decreases from the West (86%) to the East (62%).

At the same time, 60% of respondents insist that Ukraine should defend its interests upon accession, even if this may delay EU accession for some time.

In contrast to them, 27% believe that it is necessary to fulfill all the requirements of the EU in order to join the association as soon as possible.

Respondents rate Ukraine's readiness for accession as moderate. 22% consider Ukraine fully ready, 43% speak of the need for reforms. 25% believe that Ukraine is not ready for accession at all.

The survey was conducted on September 4-20 by the method of personal (face-to-face) interviews. 2,005 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine controlled by the government of Ukraine (except the Kherson and Donetsk regions) were surveyed. The error does not exceed 3.3%.
