The High Anti-Corruption Court has imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention on the former head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, Yuriy Shchyhol, who is suspected of misappropriating over UAH 62 million. The alternative is bail in the amount of UAH 25 million.

Censor.NET reports this with reference to NABU.

"The HACC chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the former head of the State Special Communications Service. The alternative is UAH 25 million bail," the statement said.

The decision was made by HACC investigating judge Viktor Maslov. Prosecutors requested to arrest Shchyhol with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 50.2 million. The court partially granted the detectives' request.

Shchyhol will remain in custody until at least 21 January 2024. This term may be extended.

We remind that, according to NABU, the management of the State Service of Special Communications is suspected of embezzling UAH 62 million during the purchase of software.

Law enforcers believe that the officials developed a scheme with the owner of the group of companies. For this purpose, they engaged two controlled firms, and the procurement was classified to ensure their victory.

Shchyhol was found to have $1.5 million worth of cryptocurrencies.

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed the leadership of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection. Thus, Yuriy Shchyhol was dismissed from the post of Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, and Viktor Zhora was dismissed from the post of Deputy Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalisation. Zelenskyy removed Shchyhol from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff.
