The Estonian government is ready to close the border with Russia, but so far there is no good reason for this.

This was stated by members of the Cabinet of Ministers at today's press conference, Censor.NET reports with reference to European Pravda.

According to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, it is a hybrid attack by Russia, and if the situation with the influx of migrants worsens, the borders will be closed. But so far, the situation is stable and under full control.

Kallas noted that the influx of migrants from Russia did not come as a surprise to Estonia, and the government is closely monitoring the situation.

"Now we are dealing with a low-intensity migration attack. Because, in a normal situation, the Russian Federation does not allow people without the necessary documents to cross its border. But such activities of the Russian Federation are not surprising at all – we were preparing for this, and we predicted that they would use these weapons against us," the prime minister said.

According to her, all border checkpoints already have everything necessary to close them, if necessary.

As Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna noted, Estonia is constantly in touch with Finland, and if necessary, is ready to help it – since this is a regional problem, and Finland should not be left alone with it.

At the same time, according to the Minister of the Interior Lauri Läänemets, so far the situation on the Estonian border is under full control, and no one will close the borders without a good reason.

"Estonia is not so weak that we will not be able to deal with several dozen migrants at our border. If the border is closed now, it will be a disproportionate measure. And we are more likely to show our weakness to our enemies, to show our insecurities to our partners, and, in addition, we can instill fear in our society. Which is one of the goals of the Russians when conducting this hybrid attack," commented Lauri Läänemets.

After Finland's decision to close all but one of its checkpoints on the border with Russia, Norway announced its readiness to shut down the only checkpoint on the border with Russia.

Finnish border guards reported that in recent months, an exceptionally large number of people who do not have entry documents have tried to enter Finland through checkpoints on the southeastern border.
