About 5500 firearms seized from citizens over past year - Klymenko
In 2023, law enforcement officers seized about 5,500 firearms from citizens.
According to Censor.NET, this was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko during a telethon.
"This is the work that all law enforcement agencies do every day, every hour, and at night as well. And this case(the murder of a police officer in Vinnytsia region) shows that whatever the motive of these citizens, they have broken the law and must be held accountable," Klymenko said.
The Interior Minister noted that each such case makes it necessary to change response protocols. This applies to both the State Emergency Service and the National Police.
"Unfortunately, it is the lives and health of our employees, our rescuers and police officers that the war takes away. We are writing these instructions with our blood. As scary as it may sound, we have to respond to any mistakes that may have been made before. After all, these mistakes, and these inaccuracies in these instructions, can lead to the loss of our employees," Klymenko added.
