Trump doesn’t want to be blamed for Ukraine’s defeat, says former US special envoy Volker

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump does not want Ukraine to fail during his possible cadence and be held responsible for it.
This opinion was expressed at the Kyiv Security Forum by Kurt Volker, the US government's special representative for negotiations on Ukraine (2017-2019), Censor.NET reports citing LigaBusinessInform.
"When it comes to Trump, there are people around him who strongly support Ukraine, and of course, there are those who do not. But their motives are usually personal. As for Trump himself, he does not want to fail. He doesn't want Ukraine to fail under his watch and be held responsible for it," he said.
Volker cited the war in Afghanistan as an example, when Trump agreed with current US leader Joe Biden that the presence of US troops there was not in Washington's long-term interests.
"However, he did not withdraw the troops himself, realizing that this could potentially be a disaster. He explicitly stated that he would not do this, and as we have seen, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan under Biden did not make a very good impression. So it's the same with Ukraine: Trump doesn't want Ukraine to lose," said the former US special envoy.
As for Ukraine, the 45-1 US president also does not want it to lose, Volker said. Trump often accuses Biden of weakness and is convinced that "America must become strong again." Volker suggests that after the election, Trump could "call Putin and demand a withdrawal of troops," although it is unknown whether this will happen.
