Coalition for Demining

Members of the Mine Action Coalition discussed Ukraine's needs for equipment and weapons and agreed on a roadmap for assistance for 2025-2034.

According to Censor.NET, citing the Ministry of Defense, this was discussed at the ninth meeting of the Coalition, which was chaired by Lithuania and Iceland.

It is noted that the event brought together representatives of 14 countries, as well as officials from the NATO Structure for Assistance to Ukraine (NSATU) and the Security Assistance Group-Ukraine (SAG-U).

Representatives of Lithuania and Iceland stated that they would continue to support Ukraine and further coordinate the efforts of partners within the Coalition.

The representatives of Ukraine thanked the international partners for their systematic and sustained support in the fight against the consequences of the war.

"The contamination of Ukraine's land with explosive remnants of war is one of the biggest threats to civilians. Decisive actions and additional efforts are needed to clear the territories, protect people and ensure stability in the post-conflict period," said Colonel Ruslan Berehulia, Head of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety, and called on countries that are not yet members to join the Coalition for Demining.

He also informed about the current and prospective state of procurement in accordance with the voiced needs. They discussed the Coalition's proposals for contributions to the training and equipping of demining units and the list of critical logistical needs.

In turn, Major General Dmytro Hereha, commander of the Armed Forces Support Force, emphasized the importance of international assistance.

The Ministry of Defense also reported that by the end of 2024, 40 M113 armored personnel carriers, more than 200 drone countermeasures systems, 118 off-road vehicles and 240 mine detectors were purchased and transferred to the engineering units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within the framework of the Coalition to perform combat demining tasks.

It is worth recalling that the Mine Action Coalition includes elements of both humanitarian demining of the liberated occupied territories and combat demining on the contact line with Russian troops.
