Protests in Georgia continue: clashes between protesters and police continued at night

Protests continue in Georgia

For the fourth night in a row, clashes between protesters and police took place in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Large-scale protests continued in other cities across the country.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to "Echo of the Caucasus", BBC and other Georgian publications.

Security forces in Tbilisi again used water cannons and tear gas.

"The protesters are periodically poured with water, and fireworks are fired in response. People are concentrated on the site almost to the opera house. A small group of people, concentrated near the parliament itself, is engaged in a 'war' with the special forces and police. The main part of the action is a little further away," Novosti Georgia wrote.

Later, the protesters began to make fires and build barricades.

Later, the opposition called on citizens to take holidays and time off from work and join the protests. They also asked employers not to interfere and to let their employees go on leave.

Special forces push protesters away from parliament building

At around 1:30 a.m. local time, security forces used water cannons and tear gas from Svobody Square to push protesters out of the area in front of the parliament building.

The protesters responded by using pyrotechnics and erecting barricades in an attempt to resist the riot police.

"The rally is slowly withdrawing, giving way to the area in front of the parliament," the journalists wrote.

People moved away from the parliament building to the opera.

During the dispersal of the demonstration, cases of detention were recorded. Earlier, there were reports that the places in the detention centres were already full after mass detentions in the previous three days.

Tbilisi publics write that there were twice as many people in the evening of 1 December. There is also information about the victims. According to Tbilisi life, a young girl was injured by a "heavy object" in the face/head area. She was hospitalised. They say that it is the special forces that use various objects against people.

To recap, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia agreed to impose sanctions against those who organised the dispersal of protesters in Georgia.
