Russia executed 177 Ukrainian prisoners of war during three years of war - Lubinets

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 177 cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war have been documented.
This was announced in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, Censor.NET reports.
According to the ombudsman, 109 such cases were recorded in 2024 alone, which indicates an escalation of violence by the occupiers. He noted that in previous years, information about executions came mainly through law enforcement and intelligence agencies, but in 2024, there was a lot of video evidence of these crimes, which was disseminated by the Russians themselves.
"In fact, not all cases are officially recorded, very often I receive information that we cannot confirm, however, there are all the facts that indicate that this happened," Lubinets said.
He emphasized that such videos are not only a way of intimidation, but also a way to bind Russian soldiers with blood so that they do not surrender to Ukrainian forces.
As noted, in 2024, for the first time, UN reports officially confirmed the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military. This information appeared in the reports of the UN Permanent Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and the Special Rapporteur on Torture, Alice Edwards. According to their data, 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war are subjected to systematic torture in Russian prisons.
The Ombudsman also emphasized the passive position of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which did not accuse Russia of such actions. At the same time, in November 2024, Lubinets released data that at least 165 Ukrainian civilians, including eight children, were killed by Russian shelling, and 887 people were injured.
