Ukrainians must make fundamental decisions - to continue fighting or to negotiate - Blinken

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken

Ukraine needs to make an important decision - to continue fighting or to negotiate peace.

This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"Ukrainians must make fundamental decisions about continuing the fight or negotiating and trying to bring it to a ceasefire," the head of American diplomacy said.

Blinken emphasized that the question of whether Russia is ready to do so is also fundamental.

"However, if it does come to that (negotiations - ed.), we want to make sure that the Ukrainians and the Trump administration are in the best position to make the strongest deal possible," the US Secretary of State continued.

According to him, this means further work to strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield so that it has the necessary resources, ammunition, and mobilized soldiers. In addition, it means continuing to exert maximum pressure on Russia.

Blinken emphasized that when it comes to a ceasefire, it should be on fair terms and with a long-term perspective. According to him, it is important not to allow Russia to rest, rearm and attack again in a year, two or five years. "This will be crucial," the US Secretary of State said.

Blinken also emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine on its path to success as an independent state.

"It has not been wiped off the map. This is what Putin wanted and failed. Ukraine can stand on its own two feet militarily, economically and democratically. This is the best possible response to Putin. And I know that President Trump will want to make a good deal," the US Secretary of State said.
