It is absolutely unacceptable that Slovakia threatened to cut off emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine, - Estonian Foreign Minister Tsakhkna

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsakhkna

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhkna emphasized that Slovakia's threats to cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine are absolutely unacceptable.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to European Pravda.

He reminded that the European Union has agreed to completely stop importing Russian fossil fuels by 2027.

"The recent efforts of the governments of Hungary and Slovakia to continue supplying Russian gas to the European Union contradict this goal, as they only prolong energy dependence on Russia," the minister explained.

He also added that the European Commission has confirmed that the termination of Russian gas transit through Ukraine will not affect the energy security of the European Union and its member states.

"Getting rid of energy dependence on Russia is in the interests of every state, as Russia is used to using energy exports as a weapon. Russia

According to him, Russia is demonstrating its true nature by threatening, for example, to leave residents of Transnistria without electricity and heating from January 1 by cutting off gas supplies.

"Given all of this, it is absolutely unacceptable that Slovakia would threaten to cut off emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine this winter. For almost three years now, Ukraine has been fighting not only for its sovereignty but also for the security of the whole of Europe and the world. In the current situation, the only right approach is to fully support Ukraine, not to increase the suffering of Ukrainians by our actions," Tsakhkna emphasized.

On December 27, Fico said that he would consider actions in response to Ukraine's suspension of Russian gas transit on January 1.

Zelenskyy, in turn, said that Russian dictator Putin had instructed Slovak Prime Minister Fico to open a second energy front against Ukraine, drawing Slovakia into the conflict.
