Poland is ready to increase electricity supplies to Ukraine if Hungary and Romania support it - Wapinski, spokesman for power grids

Poland to increase electricity supplies to Kyiv with the consent of Romania and Hungary

Poland will be able to increase electricity supplies to Ukraine if Slovakia follows through on its threats to cut off supplies. However, Warsaw can help Ukraine only in agreement with its partners Hungary and Romania.

This was stated by the spokesman of the Polish Electricity Networks Maciej Wapinski, the Rzeczpospolita newspaper reports, Censor.NET informs .

According to Wapinski, Slovakia's share in Ukraine's energy supply may be redistributed among the rest of the EU states that supply electricity to the east - Hungary, Romania and Poland.

At the same time, the spokesperson noted that Warsaw can help Ukraine only in agreement with its partners, as a unilateral decision could threaten the security of the electricity market in the entire region.

According to Polish expert Marcin Jakubik, in 2024, Hungary became the EU's largest exporter of electricity to Ukraine, accounting for 35% to 45% of the total electricity from the European Union.

While Poland's share ranges from 15% to 25%, Slovakia supplied Ukraine with approximately the same volumes.

Earlier, Bloomberg wrote that Poland is ready to increase electricity exports to Ukraine if Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico fulfills his threat to stop backup electricity supplies to Ukraine.
