Austria is no longer dependent on Russian gas - and that’s good thing - Energy Minister Gewessler

Austrian Minister for Climate and Energy Leonor Gewessler stated that her country is no longer dependent on Russian gas.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the ministry's press service.
They noted that the suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukraine had been announced several times in advance, so market participants turned to alternative sources. This allowed them to compensate for supply restrictions and guarantee gas supplies.
"Ukraine made it clear in advance that it would not renew the transit contract with the aggressor Russia. We did our homework and were well prepared for such a scenario," Gewessler said.
"Domestic energy companies were looking for other, non-Russian gas suppliers. OMV also terminated its long-standing cooperation with Russia's Gazprom. Austria is no longer dependent on Russian gas - and that's a good thing," the minister added.
As a reminder, at 07:00 a.m. on January 1, 2025, in the interests of national security, the transportation of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine was stopped.
Unrecognized Transnistria left without gas, heat, and hot water due to the cessation of gas supplies from the Russian Federation.
