Olaf Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not plan to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

The position of the government and its head was voiced by spokesman Steffen Gebestreit at a briefing on Monday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

When asked whether he could rule out the possibility of the German Chancellor's visit to Moscow before the federal elections, Gebestreit answered briefly and categorically: "Yes".

The spokesman called the statements of the conservative MP Kiesewetter "slander" and assured that "there is no reason for such a trip, and it would not make sense at all." Therefore, according to Gebestreit, the chancellor personally reacted sharply to the emergence of these "unfounded rumors."

The spokesperson also noted that the MP's post on social media caused an incredible outcry, with Berlin receiving calls from Moscow, leading German TV channels and foreign bureaus, and it also caused great indignation in Kyiv: "How could the chancellor come to the point where he is going to go there?"

The spokesman noted that this is the second time the government has demanded that Kizewetter remove this "nonsense" from the social network, which caused such a reaction at the international level.

Earlier, the German opposition CDU party said that Scholz would meet with Putin before February 23, and Trump - in March. Censor.NET also reported that the leader of Scholz's party, Esken, supports the continuation of negotiations with Putin.

At the same time, the Social Democratic Party of Germany denied the opposition 's allegations of alleged preparations for a meeting between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Later, Scholz himself called this statement extremely indecent
