Finland supports new sanctions against Russia, - MFA Valtonen

Finnish MFA on the need for a strong position of Ukraine

Finland supports strengthening sanctions against Russia because they work.

This was stated by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, commenting on the possibility of strengthening sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

At a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, Valtonen noted that this is a matter not only of reducing the income of the Russian military machine, but also of preventing a major environmental disaster in the Baltic Sea.

"And if we talk about the shadow fleet, we have several issues here, not only to reduce the marginal price of oil, which is there to reduce revenues for the Russian military machine... Secondly, to prevent a major environmental accident, which, unfortunately, is even more likely than we think now, when the Baltic Sea is also freezing, and the ships are not of very good quality," the Finnish Foreign Minister said.

In addition, she said, Finland wants to protect agricultural infrastructure, and Ukraine has many technological means for this. Valtonen emphasized that she was glad that Finland could "use the fantastic opportunities that Ukraine has in this regard."
