In Poland, cases of desertion of Ukrainian military from exercises are "marginal", it will not affect cooperation - Ministry of Defense

Poland comments on cases of desertion among Ukrainian soldiers during exercises in Europe

There are cases of desertion among the 26,000 Ukrainian soldiers who are being trained in Poland, but they are "marginal."

Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland Cezary Tomczyk told this to Radio Liberty, Censor.NET reports.

"We are the country that has trained the largest number of Ukrainian military. Today it is more than 26 thousand. Are there people in the group of 26,000 who have other plans or believe that their future is not in the Ukrainian army? Probably, there are such people. This is a fairly large group of people. However, I believe that the details should remain between us," Tomchyk said.

According to him, such cases of desertion of Ukrainian soldiers will not affect cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in military exercises.

A representative of the Polish Defense Ministry emphasized that Warsaw would continue to support the Ukrainian side by assisting in the training of Ukrainian soldiers in Poland.

I think it's obvious that there are cases of desertion, and this happens in every army in the world. However, if (such cases - ed.) occur in the case of Ukraine, it is a marginal matter that has no impact on the training of Ukrainian soldiers in Poland," Tomczyk added.

In addition, the Deputy Polish Defense Minister assures that he is not aware of any requests from the Ukrainian side regarding the desertion of Ukrainian soldiers during transit to France or back.

Earlier, Poland confirmed that there are cases of desertion among Ukrainian soldiers undergoing training in the country, but the scale is insignificant.
