Zelenskyy to discuss sending peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine with British Prime Minister Starmer

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss sending a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy noted that a peacekeeping contingent could be an important component in providing comprehensive security guarantees for Ukraine, but he also stressed that this was not enough to effectively defend against Russian aggression.
"Undoubtedly, a single contingent of some countries will not do. I think this is not enough. But the fact that it can be a serious component of future security guarantees is true. This initiative was launched by Emmanuel Macron. The British look at it positively, but I will talk about it in detail with the Prime Minister at our meeting, which will take place. He will be visiting Ukraine, he will be visiting Ukraine, and we will talk. We already have very serious decisions between our countries," the President explained.
Zelenskyy also stressed that Ukraine needs joint security guarantees from both the US and European countries. He noted that as Ukraine moves towards NATO membership, it is important to create reliable security mechanisms that include support from the US, EU and other international partners.
"I think that we cannot consider security guarantees to be simply European. For Ukraine, European security guarantees are not enough against an enemy like Russia. We need joint security guarantees from the United States and Europe," Zelenskyy concluded.
Peacekeeping forces in Ukraine
Earlier it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron would discuss with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine if an agreement is reached to end the current phase of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
German chancellor candidate and leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Fridrich Merz said that Germany's participation in a peacekeeping mission for Ukraine should be provided for by an international mandate. He also said that such a mandate "should be given in consensus with Russia, not in conflict".
