The draft law on the demobilisation of military personnel has been developed, but it will take 3 months to work out the mechanisms for its implementation.

This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Defence Ivan Havryliuk, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, the relevant draft law has already been developed, and mechanisms are currently being worked out to understand how to replace a large number of people who will be subject to demobilisation.

"New forms and methods of warfare are being developed. And to be honest, we need another three months for this," Havryliuk said.

The deputy minister explained that in order to submit the draft law, it is necessary to create conditions so that the implementation of this draft law does not lead to "the disappearance of the state of Ukraine".

"Regarding the draft law on demobilisation. I would like to remind you that Ukraine is in the midst of a full-scale invasion and full-scale aggression by Russia. Accordingly, the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff formulate policies under martial law," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

On 11 April 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on mobilisation. It obliged the Ministry of Defence to develop a draft law on demobilisation within eight months.

The Ministry of Defence had to prepare the relevant draft law by 18 December.

According to media reports, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has asked the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence to postpone the deadline for drafting a bill on the conditions for demobilising servicemen during martial law until 18 March 2025.
