US imposes sanctions on Chinese companies and Kyrgyz bank that cooperate with Russia

US imposes new sanctions on companies cooperating with Russia

The U.S. Treasury Department has expanded sanctions against companies and institutions that cooperate with Russia, thereby supporting its aggression against Ukraine. The US has re-added about 100 organizations to the sanctions list and imposed restrictions on 15 new companies.

This was announced on Wednesday, January 15, by the press service of the US Treasury Department, Censor.NET reports.

The US Treasury Department noted that the new restrictive measures are aimed at eliminating sanctions evasion schemes.

"These actions are aimed at a sanctions evasion scheme created between entities in Russia and the People's Republic of China to facilitate cross-border payments for sensitive goods. In addition, the U.S. Treasury Department identified a financial institution from the Kyrgyz Republic that coordinated with Russian officials to implement the sanctions circumvention scheme," the statement said.

It is noted that the scheme involves Russian financial institutions that have previously been included in the US sanctions list, namely Sberbank of Russia, Alfa-Bank, Sovcombank, and T-Bank. In addition, Herbarium Office Management LLC, Atlant Trade, Sigma Partners, Transactions and Settlements, as well as Russian banks Roseximbank, Moscow Credit Bank, AK Bars, Moscow Exchange, Keremet Bank (Kyrgyzstan), and others were involved in the scheme.

At the same time, the sanctions list includes organizations from the Russian energy sector, such as Gazstroyprom, Polymetal, Rusgazdobycha, Severstal, as well as the defense and materials sectors: Aleksinsky Chemical Plant, Silicon El Group, and Russian Space Systems.

"Today's actions undermine the Kremlin's ability to circumvent our sanctions and gain access to the goods it needs to build weapons for its war in Ukraine," said U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
