Slovak psychiatrists appealed to Fico and called on politician to resign

More than 250 specialists in the field of psychiatry and psychology have signed an open letter to the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico.
As Censor.NET informs, the open letter was published by the Dennik edition.
"The threat to democracy in Slovakia and the international status of our country compels us to comment on your political behavior and public statements. We would like to emphasize in advance that we do not want to evaluate your personality and will focus only on behavior from publicly available sources," the statement said.
Psychiatrists and psychologists say that Fico's behavior is characterized by "an increasingly authoritarian style, manipulation of facts, lies, slander and attacks" on opponents, journalists and simply disagreeing citizens.
In addition, the experts recalled the prime minister's reaction to the actions of schoolboy Simon Omanik, who did not want to shake hands with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. Then Fico, according to psychiatrists, "sent 'educational slaps' to the student from a distance."
"Your political behavior and proclaimed positions polarize society and affect its emotional atmosphere. They cause frustration and dissatisfaction among a large part of the Slovak population. More and more people are thinking about leaving the country not only for work or study, but also for personal reasons. They don't want to live in a country where public policy is characterized by such disdain, ridicule and aggression," the experts say.
They add that Fico's domestic policy is aimed at strengthening his government, party and coalition partners.
"You support people who spread conspiracies, slander and lies and destroy our culture," the letter reads.
The psychiatrists and psychologists noted that they are "horrified" by Fico's foreign policy initiatives, which often "directly contradict EU and NATO policies." Among them are the prime minister's position on the Russian-Ukrainian war and his "dismissive comments" about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"You speak disrespectfully of the democratically elected president of Ukraine, who has been waging an unequal war with the occupiers for three years. You will not hesitate to go to Moscow and shake hands with the Russian president, who bears political and moral responsibility for the deaths of tens of thousands of people. Not only the military, but also civilians, including children and their abduction. Russia is destroying the country's infrastructure by attacking civilian homes, schools, hospitals and theaters. You also encourage your fellow party members and coalition partners to take similar concessions to Russian imperialism," the experts emphasize.
They noted that the aggressiveness and emotional explosiveness of Fico's public speeches increased after the assassination attempt.
"You have undoubtedly experienced life-threatening stress, which may also affect your future activities," the letter reads.
It is known that the open letter was sent to the leadership of the Slovak Psychiatric Society, the Slovak Medical Society, and the Slovak Chamber of Psychologists.
"We hope for your ability to introspect and the possibility of correcting your political behavior, including thinking about leaving high politics," the experts addressed Fico in the end.
As a reminder, Fico reacted to the recent visit of Slovak MPs to Kyiv, where they met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and called it a "gesture of sycophancy."
