Trump suspends all US aid programmes to foreign countries for 90 days

Trump signs first executive orders

On the first day after his inauguration, US President Donald Trump signed a decree suspending all US foreign aid programmes for 90 days until their compliance with his policy goals is analysed.

According to Censor.NET, the Associated Press reports.

It is noted that it is not yet clear how much aid the decree will initially affect, as funds for many programmes have already been allocated by Congress and must be spent.

The decree states that "foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and in many cases antithetical to American values" and "serve to destabilize world peace by promoting ideas in foreign countries that are directly inverse to harmonious and stable relations internal to and among countries."

In this regard, Trump stated that "no further United States foreign assistance shall be disbursed in a manner that is not fully aligned with the foreign policy of the President of the United States."

The executive order signed by Trump leaves it to Secretary of State Marco Rubio or his designee to make such decisions in consultation with the Office of Management and Budget.

As a reminder, Rubio said that achieving peace is a priority for President Donald Trump's administration, but that this process will be difficult and will require significant concessions from both sides.
