Pistorius on Trump’s intention to end war quickly: Sustainable peace and security guarantees for Ukraine must be ensured

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, commenting on Donald Trump's intention to quickly end Russia's war against Ukraine, stressed the importance of not only a ceasefire but also ensuring sustainable peace for Ukraine.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to an interview with DW.
In this context, he stressed that Ukraine needs international security guarantees from other countries to avoid the possibility of a new Russian attack in the future.
According to him, without these guarantees, the likelihood of a repeat Russian attack in a few years is very high. He also noted that this is the problem Europe will have to solve in the coming "months and years".
Pistorius also opposed public discussion of the ceasefire strategy and negotiations, saying that such issues should not be discussed openly, otherwise it could harm diplomatic efforts.
"It's not something we should discuss publicly, because otherwise I might send an email to Vladimir Putin to let him know what our plans are," he added.
As a reminder, on 22 January, Trump announced his readiness to impose high taxes, tariffs and sanctions on Russian exports if an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is not reached soon.
