Principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine" is important, especially after Trump’s statement, - Metsola

Now the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine" is very important, especially after the latest statement by US President Donald Trump.
This was stated by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.
"I think that 'nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine' has never been so important, especially in the last hours after President Trump's statement," she said during the discussion Ukraine: The Road Ahead on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
At the same time, the president asked whether "this will mean that those member states that may have been more reluctant than others to continue to apply sanctions against Russia will change course."
She also emphasized that it is neither in the EU's nor in the US's interests for Russia to control Kyiv. The President of the European Parliament emphasized the importance of unity and determination as "we enter a new phase of discussions with the new US administration."
"So if this tweet was a launching pad for, let's say, a new course of how we discussed and let's discuss, but nothing more about Ukraine without Ukraine. Because otherwise, we will not do a favor to the European Union, to Ukraine, and, of course, to the United States," Metsola added.
As a reminder, on January 22, 2025, Trump announced his readiness to impose high taxes, tariffs and sanctions on Russian exports if an agreement is not reached soon to end the war in Ukraine.
