Ukraine is ready for gas transit from Azerbaijan to Europe, - Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready for gas transit from Azerbaijani

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has not abandoned gas transit from Azerbaijan to Europe, but Kyiv will not agree to resume Russian gas transit.

He said this at a press conference with Moldovan leader Maia Sandu, Censor.NET reports citing RBC-Ukraine.

According to the head of state, he discussed the issue of Azerbaijani gas transit with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"Azerbaijan's production is very high today - about 40 billion cubic meters. It uses about 14-15 billion cubic meters. It has large exports. The export capacity is 25 billion cubic meters. We can also use our infrastructure if countries in Europe need gas, not Russian gas," Zelenskyy said.

According to him, Ukraine has never denied the possibility of transiting Azerbaijani gas through its territory.

"But I said that we will not continue to transport Russian gas. We will not let the Russians make money. And let the Azerbaijanis make money? With pleasure. Do you want to help the Slovaks? With pleasure. This is something we can do quickly. We can sign a contract, quickly establish it when we hear a signal from people in Tiraspol, people in Slovakia, and people in other European countries," Zelenskyy summarized.

Stopping Russian gas transit

As a reminder, at 07:00 on January 1, 2025, the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukraine was suspended in the interests of national security.

The Cabinet of Ministers said that Ukraine had duly informed the European Commission about the termination of gas transit. European countries have prepared.

Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico has also previously threatened to stop exporting electricity to Ukraine and significantly reduce support for Ukrainian refugees in response to the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory.

Recently, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "beggar and blackmailer."

Earlier it was reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was "obviously mistaken" in hoping that his shadowy schemes with Moscow would exist indefinitely.
