In negotiations on Russia’s war against Ukraine, red lines must be drawn: purpose of peace – PACE President Rousopoulos

Rousopoulos on peace talks

In possible peace talks to end Russia's war against Ukraine, the question is what "peace" means, while red lines need to be set - what exactly is it for.

According to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform, this opinion was expressed by PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos.

Thus, in response to the question whether there are now good reasons for numerous talks about peace talks to end the war, Rusopoulos noted that even in the first days of the aggressive war, there were certain peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

"So who would be against peace talks? The question is, what does 'peace' mean? If peace means that the war will end, but everything will remain as it is now, and the territories recaptured by the country next door to Ukraine will become Russian territory, then this is not the peace we want to support or listen to. Of course, peace negotiations are generally a good thing, and someone will say: if we don't negotiate, how will we know the results of these negotiations? So, in principle, yes, but we have to set our boundaries, red lines, as they say, for what this peace is for," he emphasized.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he could not say what the structure of the negotiation process would be, but hoped that Ukraine, the United States, Europe and Russia would participate.
