The Berlin-based Lure agency has removed all materials related to the advertising campaign of the Russian publication Meduza, which used images of Ukrainians affected by the war.

According to Censor.NET, Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeev wrote about this on his Facebook page.

"Well, we seem to have stopped the winter jellyfish invasion of Europe and Canada. I just received a response from the creative director and founder of LURE to my letter yesterday. The main thing in the letter is that LURE has removed all campaign-related materials from the network and instructed its partners to immediately stop displaying them on any platforms," Makeev said.

He also added that "stopping the display of all campaign-related materials" means the end of the campaign.

"Now, dear community, I ask for your help: we need to make sure that the campaign is really canceled. So please report here if you see any more videos or visual ads. I will write to our diplomatic colleagues in other countries, where the shadow fleet of jellyfish has also been carried away by the creative current, and we will watch our democratic sea together," the ambassador said.

Makeev also added that he had informed Mr. Yaroslav (apparently, Yaroslav Bazylevych, whose photo was used in the Meduza campaign - ed.

What was the background?

Earlier, Victoria Feshak, a member of the Ukrainian NGO Viche Berlin, noticed an advertising campaign by the Russian media outlet Meduza. According to Feshak, she saw this ad in a movie theater in Berlin.

In the ad, the Russian media outlet used footage of explosions in Ukraine and Yaroslav Bazylevych at the funeral of his wife and three daughters, who were killed in a Russian missile attack on Lviv on September 4, 2024.

According to Feshak, the advertising for Meduza was developed by the Berlin-based Lure agency.

Subsequently, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the use of footage of the war in Ukraine in an advertising campaign for the English-language version of the Russian newspaper Meduza, which operates in Latvia.
