Russian agent tried to blow up track in front of freight train in Rivne region. Traitor was detained - SSU. PHOTOS

SSU counterintelligence neutralised another attempt by Russia to sabotage the Ukrainian railway.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press centre.

As noted, as a result of complex measures in Rivne region, a FSB agent was detained who tried to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) under a railway track used for freight transport.

The occupiers planned to remotely activate the explosives while the train was moving and thus disrupt the supply of military aid to the frontline.

The offender was detained red-handed

However, the offender did not even have time to plant the IED, as the SSU detained him red-handed near the railway tracks.

According to the case file, the agent was an unemployed 23-year-old resident of Lviv region who had already been prosecuted for vandalism at Ukrainian military graves.

He came to the attention of the FSB as an ideological supporter of ruscism and because of his desire to move to Russia, which he repeatedly wrote about on social media.

What did the investigation reveal?

The defendant received step-by-step instructions from his Russian handlers: to arrive in Rivne region, take the explosives from the cache and install them at the specified coordinates on the tracks.

During the investigation, evidence was obtained that the defendant had performed another task - he collected information about the locations of the Defence Forces units in Lviv region.

SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • P. 2 Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
  • P. 2 Article 113 (sabotage committed under martial law).

The offender is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
