Le Pen, Orban and others: leaders of EU’s far-right parties held major summit in Madrid

Far-right held a summit in Spain

Leaders of far-right parties that are part of the third largest grouping in the European Parliament, Patriots for Europe, held a major summit in Madrid under the slogan "Make Europe Great Again."

This was reported by Reuters, Censor.NET informs.

The event was attended by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Italian Vice Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, as well as the informal leader of the French National Rally party Marine Le Pen and the leader of the Dutch Freedom Party Geert Wilders.

Far-right politicians welcomed Donald Trump's return to power in the United States.

"Trump's tornado has changed the world in just a few weeks... Yesterday we were heretics, today we are the mainstream," said Hungarian Prime Minister Orban, speaking at the event.

It is noted that the speakers opposed immigration, and most called for a new "Reconquista" - a reference to the medieval conquest of Muslim-controlled parts of the Iberian Peninsula by Christian kingdoms.

At the same time, some of the most influential EU parties in this camp, such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni's Brothers of Italy, Alternative for Germany, and Law and Justice in Poland, refused to participate in the summit.
