EU intends to deepen defense cooperation with NATO, - European Commission

EU-NATO cooperation

Currently, the European Union intends to strengthen cooperation with non-EU NATO member states.

This was stated by the European Commission, Censor.NET reports with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

As noted in the European Commission, the emphasis is on the coherence of the efforts of different member states. In particular, one of the goals of the European Union is to support member states in fulfilling their international obligations, including those undertaken to NATO.

To ensure coordination , interstate exchanges are organized with the NATO International Staff.

"As announced in the European Defense Industrial Strategy, enhanced cooperation with NATO on defense industry issues is ensured by a dedicated structured dialogue launched in 2024," the European Commission said in its response.

EU-NATO defense cooperation is based on a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing security in Europe and the transatlantic area. Both organizations complement each other: NATO provides collective defense and military capabilities, while the EU focuses on crisis management, peacekeeping missions, and defense industry development.

Since 2022, after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, cooperation between the EU and NATO has become even closer.
