EU will respond with tough measures to Trump’s decision to impose duties on aluminium and steel imports from Europe, - von der Leyen

Von der Leyen on Trump’s executive order

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called the US decision to impose duties unreasonable and promised that unreasonable tariffs against the EU would not go unanswered.

According to Censor.NET, this is stated in von der Leyen's post on the social network X.

"Unreasonable tariffs against the EU will not go unanswered - they will provoke firm and proportionate countermeasures. The EU will act to safeguard its economic interests. We will protect our workers, businesses and consumers," she assured.

Von der Leyen said she "deeply regrets" the US decision and noted that tariffs are taxes, which is "bad for business, even worse for consumers".

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on 10 February imposing 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.
