US Congress has registered bill to restore lend-lease for Ukraine

The US Congress has registered a new bill that proposes to restore the lend-lease mechanism for Ukraine.
According to Censor.NET, this is stated on the website of the Congress.
The official title of the bill reads "To provide the President with expanded authority to enter into agreements with the Government of Ukraine to lease or rent defense articles to that Government to protect civilians in Ukraine from Russian military invasion, and for other purposes."
The text of the document is currently not available on the website.
The bill was initiated by a member of the House of Representatives from the Republican Party, Joe Wilson.
He explained that his bill, if approved, would give U.S. President Donald Trump "flexible authority to send victorious weapons to our partners, including Ukraine."
The U.S. land deal for Ukraine
On May 9, 2022, former U.S. President Joe Biden approved S. 3522, the Ukraine Democracy and Assistance Act of 2022.
In particular, the law allows for the acceleration of the supply of weapons, transportation, food, and aid from the United States to Ukraine.
The text of the law states that the President of the United States is "granted expanded authority to enter into agreements with the Government of Ukraine to lease or rent defense articles to protect civilians in Ukraine from Russian military invasion and for other purposes."
On October 1, 2022, it came into force.
Ukraine did not receive any weapons under the arms lend-lease, as the United States used other means.
At the same time, the European Parliament called for the adoption of an analog of the US arms export license for Ukraine.
In December 2024, Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova said that the draft law on US national defense appropriations (NDAA-2025) did not include a provision to extend the lend-lease.
