Martial law will be lifted after end of hot phase of war, - Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy says martial law in Ukraine may be lifted after the hot phase of the war is over.

He said this in an interview with the Economist, Censor.NET reports.

According to him, a ceasefire can be part of the end of active hostilities, but without security guarantees, Ukraine will not take such a step.

"Without security guarantees, a ceasefire just so that Putin can come in two months. No, this is impossible. This means that the hot phase of the war will end. If it ends, then martial law will probably end," Zelenskyy explained.

The President also reminded that after the martial law is lifted, the parliament should hold elections, adopt the relevant legislative decisions and announce the date.

Commenting on US Special Representative Keith Kellogg's statement on the elections in Ukraine, Zelenskyy expressed surprise: "He is 80 years old and he is thinking about the elections in Ukraine. It's interesting. To be honest, I think we will all think about the elections when we can think about them. Today it is definitely not the main thing. Not because someone is for or against it. It's not about that. It's just like if you had dinner in the morning. You need to have breakfast, work, and after work come home, relax with your beloved wife and have dinner. We cannot have dinner because we need to live until the evening. Just live. That's our whole path."

The Head of State emphasized that the key task of Ukraine now is to stop the war and return security to its citizens.
