Frederiksen on appeasing aggressor: It was wrong in Munich in 1938, and it would be wrong today

Ukraine must win the war, and the future peace agreement must guarantee that Russia will no longer attack Ukraine or other European countries.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this at a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference on February 15, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"What is the plan for Ukraine? Let me get to the conclusions. The plan is to win the war. That's the bottom line. Because what is the alternative? If we allow Russia to make decisions on European issues in 2025, this is the wrong way. I have never believed that the war in Ukraine is primarily about Ukraine. The war in Ukraine is about Russia, it is about its imperial ambitions, its desire and will to make decisions on European issues. And we cannot let them do that. That is why I think we have to stick to the strategy. And the strategy is to win the war," Frederiksen said.
She noted that she would do everything possible to maintain peace, but did not believe in connivance and appeasement. "It was wrong in Munich in 1938, and I believe it will be a mistake today," the Danish Prime Minister said.
"Peace must be reliable and fair. And this peace can only be just and we can only trust the peace agreement if we are sure that Russia will not return to Ukraine or anywhere else in Europe. That is why we need to win this war," she emphasized.
Frederiksen also emphasized that Europeans must be able to defend themselves.
"So we have to do our homework in Europe, and we have to do it very quickly. We have to spend much more on defense and security, we have to develop our economy to be able to do what is necessary to protect our countries," the Danish Prime Minister said.
