Sweden is ready to send troops to Ukraine as part of peacekeeping mission, - Prime Minister Kristersson

Sweden

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that his country is considering sending troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission after the end of hostilities.

He said this in a comment to Reuters, Censor.NET reports.

"We will take part in these negotiations, and of course it is absolutely possible," Kristersson said when asked whether Sweden was ready to contribute to the peacekeeping force.

At the same time, the Swedish prime minister stressed that such a decision requires a clear mandate.

"There needs to be a very clear mandate for those forces and I don't think we can see that until we have come further in those negotiations. But Sweden is usually involved in strengthening security in our part of the world, so I foresee that we will be part of this process this time," he said.

Earlier, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard also said that the country does not rule out sending troops to any post-war peacekeeping mission. She stressed that the priority is to achieve a just and sustainable peace that would guarantee Ukraine's security and prevent new aggression from Russia.
