US considers automatic NATO membership for Ukraine if Russia violates agreements - NBC

The United States is considering the possibility of Ukraine's automatic accession to NATO if Russia violates the agreements.
According to Censor.NET, NBC reports this with reference to sources.
On the eve of Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth's speech in Brussels, some State Department officials advised his team not to speak publicly about Ukraine not getting NATO membership as part of a peace deal with Russia, four administration and Congressional officials said.
However, he later stated that the United States was committed to a sovereign Ukraine, but that NATO membership was not a ‘realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement with Russia’.
During their visits last week, Hegseth and US Vice President J.D. Vance said that Europe should take more responsibility for its own defence, as the Trump administration prioritises the US southern border and the Indo-Pacific region, the newspaper writes.
"One security guarantee the United States is considering as part of a peace deal is to automatically grant Ukraine NATO membership if Russia violates the agreement, four U.S. officials said.
Such a provision would be aimed at addressing a key concern for Ukraine and its allies — that Russia would regroup and invade the country again," the article said.
