Scholz responds to Trump: Ukraine cannot be blamed for war

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Ukraine couldn't be blamed for the war started by Russia.

This is reported by Reuters, Censor.NET informs.

His words were a response to recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who said that Ukraine ‘should not have’ started the war.

"It is not. We in Europe insist on this," the chancellor stressed.

According to him, this is why the EU keeps its doors open for Ukraine as a potential member.

"Ukraine must not be hindered in its decision to be a democratic, sovereign nation on its way into Europe," he emphasised.

Scholz also said that in the case of a future peace settlement Ukraine must have a strong army, "for which we in Europe and our international and transatlantic partners share responsibility".

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump recently said that the Ukrainian government had allowed the war to continue. He also added that Ukraine ‘should not have started this’.
